FIREFIGHTERS worked for an hour to rescue a dog which had fallen into a hole in Narre Warren last week.
About 9am on 30 November, the Narre Warren Fire Brigade attended a property in Rufus Court where a dog was trapped in a 1.5 metre deep hole bordering a neighboring building site.
Southern Metropolitan Region Brigade support officer Paul Little said most of the dog’s body was buried in dirt, but she was able to keep her head above the dirt to breathe.
Captain Paul Hardy from Narre Warren Fire Brigade called Dandenong rescue to assist them in the rescue.
Mr Little said due to the risk of further collapse, firefighters carefully removed the gravel from the garden bed and then continued to gently remove gravel and dirt from around the dog.
“Eventually, they were able to get a hose around the dog’s stomach to assist in lifting out the dog,” Mr Little said. “After about 60 minutes, the dog was freed; she then went straight into a grateful owner’s arms.”
Narre Warren Fire Brigade was assisted by Hallam, Dandenong Rescue and a veterinarian.
