Locals set to continue form

By David Nagel
RACING returns to Cranbourne this Saturday with the third of four Christmas Race Days, and local trainers will be hoping for a repeat of their dominant form at the last meeting on 3 December.
Colin Alderson led the way on that occasion, teaming up with jockey Danny Adam to score a winning double with $10 shot Be Savvy in race four and the well-supported Ironside ($4.80) in race six.
Greg Eurell got the locals off to a flyer when his four-year-old mare Heavenly Dawn streeted her rivals by three lengths in the opening race of the day. The $1.80 favourite was always in command, and when jockey Luke Currie released the brakes in the straight, the daughter of God’s Own left her rivals in a cloud of dust.
Stephen Theodore split the Alderson runners by training the winner of race five, Bon Genre, ridden by Mark Pegus, which made it four winners for the locals.
Early nominations indicate a strong local contingent of trainers is keen to fill their Christmas stockings with local prize money once again this Saturday.
Santa will make an appearance at the track and there are plenty of activities available for all the family.
The last of four Christmas Race Days will be held next Friday 23 December.
