Environment Minister Ryan Smith said the schools had achieved high environmental benchmarks and demonstrated exceptional leadership in the community.
“This initiative is about empowering young people through schools to make decisions to change their behaviour in positive ways that not only benefit our environment, but also help schools reduce their costs,” he said.
“I am sure the lessons learnt now will remain with the students throughout their lifetime.”
An extra $8.3 million in funding from the Coalition Government has enabled more than 1000 schools and early learning centres to take part.
