UPWEY’S Breenae Stewart wasn’t jumping for joy at the thought of a leap day birth.
But she changed her mind when her son Blade Jackson Bajkai arrived at Upper Ferntree Gully’s Angliss Hospital on 29 February.
“Now we’re looking at it from the other perspective, that it’s quite special,” she said.
Family and friends had been ribbing Ms Stewart about the prospect of a leap day baby leading up to her 1 March due date but she thought her first baby was unlikely to arrive early.
“At first I wasn’t happy about it,” she said.
The leap day was still on her mind when she went into labour on Monday 27 February.
Blade came into the world via emergency Caesarean 32 hours later at 2.38am, weighing 3.4 kilograms.
“It’s all good now,” she said.
Ms Stewart said Blade would celebrate his birthday on 1 March in non-leap years, and every fourth birthday would be an extra special occasion.
Blade was one of six ‘leaplings’ born at Angliss Hospital this year, including Codie from Ferntree Gully, Amelia from Boronia, Mason from Woori Yallock and Alsie from Coldstream.
