A power of work

RESTORATION works on Mount Evelyn’s Owl Land have finally been completed.
The three-year Owl Land Project was a collaborating of the Mount Evelyn Environment Protection and Progress Association (MEEPPA), Friends of the Owl Land and SP AusNet, formerly TXU.
A former Mount Evelyn resident left $10,000 in her will for works on the Owl Land and SP AusNet contributed more than $60,000 towards the project, which aims to protect the Powerful Owls that reside in Mount Evelyn.
The works included restoration and rehabilitation of the natural vegetation, upgrading the main path, the eradication of invasive weeds growing there and interpretative signs.
Owl Land project manager and MEEPPA member Clare Worsnop was very pleased with the completed works, which she said were critical in saving the Powerful Owl population and also in developing the community.
“There are only three places in Mount Evelyn that have Powerful Owls, the Owl Land, the recreation reserve and Queens Reserve, so the Owl Land is an important place in the community that needs care and protection,” she said.
“It’s important to keep it and preserve it for future generations. It’ll be a great way to teach students and community groups and residents can take pride when they see the area.”
