MONBULK men looking to get involved in the community need to look no further – the Monbulk Men’s Shed is now here.
It was officially opened last Saturday on Main Road next to the Monbulk Primary School Op Shop.
About 80 people were present, including Casey MP Tony Smith, Yarra Ranges Council mayor Graham Warren and representatives from Rotary, Country Women’s Association, Olinda Community House, Monbulk Primary School, Open Door Community Church and Monbulk community bank.
Members from Men’s Sheds around the Yarra Ranges were also in attendance.
Local identity Les Twentyman was invited to speak and cut the ribbon.
Men’s Shed chairman Brian Tunks said the shed was a great way for men to bond and looked forward to getting the ball rolling with the new members.
“There’s an old saying that women speak face to face and men speak shoulder to shoulder, and it’s true – they do better when they’ve got a common task,” he said.
“We’re looking at pooling the info and knowledge men have got and sharing it, as well as developing friendships they can have with one another.
“At this stage, our main focus is on setting up the shed, but I will be leaving it up to the guys to determine what projects they connect to.”
He thanked everyone who attended the opening.
“Thanks to everyone that made the day, and thanks to Ray Yates, Monbulk Primary School and the Monbulk Primary School Op shop. Without them, we wouldn’t have the shed.”
