ANALOG television will be switched off in Monbulk on 12 September to make way for new digital TV services.
The switch is happening more than 15 months ahead of the Melbourne’s and will mean that Monbulk residents can access all 16 free to air digital channels for the first time.
Early switchovers happen when broadcasters switch off analog TV signals on the same day that digital TV signals are switched on.
This is because the towers being upgraded are unable to broadcast analog and digital TV services at the same time.
To access the new digital services after analog signals are switched off residents will need to ensure their televisions can receive the digital signal by either connecting a set-top box or digital TV recorder to an existing analog TV or upgrading to a digital TV with a built-in digital tuner.
Some buildings may also need to upgrade their antenna systems and cables.
