Community music taking off in 2024

Community music takes off in 2024 with opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to learn and or play music at the Dandenong Ranges Music Council (DRMC) in the grounds of Upwey High School.

All ensembles will resume rehearsals in February.

Rehearsals for the Ranges Young Strings orchestra, for primary and secondary students who have been learning for a minimum of 18 months and can read music, will be held on Mondays from 4.30pm to 6pm.

The Dandenong Ranges Orchestra, for strings, woodwind, brass and percussion and available for all ages and all abilities, will rehearse on Mondays from 7.30pm to 9.45pm.

The Dandenong Ranges Big Band will rehearse on Thursdays from 8pm to 10pm.

The singing group Happy Wanderers performs weekly at nursing homes.

The Dandenong Ranges Hot Jazz Orchestra, a 1920s jazz orchestra, rehearses fortnightly and is looking for new members.

Private piano lessons are available for those interested.

A rehearsal/performance space with Yamaha grand piano is available for hire.

Teaching spaces also available for hire for instrumental tuition, with inspections welcome.

Various instruments are available for hire and new members are welcome.

2024 projects for the organisation include the Youth Music Awards Concert on 21 April, Education Week, Children’s Week, Youth Fest and the Youth Music Awards Adjudication on 10 November.
