Youth week volunteers needed

THE Shire of Yarra Range has called for fresh and big ideas from young people for next year’s Youth Week festivities.
Youth programs and events coordinator Belinda Chalmers said the week was the largest celebration of young people aged 12-25 across Australia.
Ms Chalmers said the youth services team needed volunteers for its committee to plan events for National Youth Week, from April 15 to 22, 2007.
She said the shire wanted young people to be involved in all aspects of the youth week program including deciding what events should run, applying for funding, developing the events and attending on the day.
“Some ideas for events could be sporting activities, dance parties, community projects, conferences, debates, exhibitions, festivals, forums and live performances,” she said.
For young people not interested in organising an event, Ms Chalmers said there was still plenty of ways to get involved.
“You can attend an event in your area, have your say in an online poll or enter a competition,” she said.
Anyone interested in being involved in youth week can attend a meeting at the Shire’s Youth Services office in Main St, Lilydale on Wednesday, 30 August, from 5.30pm.
