THE Shire of Yarra last week announced a $150,000 footpath construction for Mt Evelyn.
Residents will soon be able to walk safely along Swansea Road due to the construction of the footpath.
Billanook Ward councillor Tim Heenan said the footpath would stretch 1.8 kilometres from Birmingham Road to the corner of Hereford Road.
He said this would be a significant boost to local residents and would help to encourage more students to walk to and from school.
“The construction of the footpath will help to encourage alternatives to travelling by car by making it easier for children to walk and providing residents with better access to bus stops and the popular Lillydale Lake,” he said.
The footpath, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
