Monbulk fight back

MONBULK’S Under 13/2 coach, Mark Ellis, was pleased with his team’s fighting spirit in round 2 of junior cricket.
Despite going down to Upper Ferntree Gully (4/51 to 4/103), the side played well and there were some good individual performances from Darby Maling, Sean Ellis, Bryce Lees and James Hutchins.
The Under 13/1 team, meanwhile, had a narrow loss to Eildon Park. Chris Anderson made 21 not out and Jake Evans 15 as Monbulk reached 4 for 75 but it wasn’t enough and Eildon Park (6 for 82) got home in the final over.
The Under 17’s put in a better display to score 6 for 64 (Sam Goland 32) and managed to snare six opposition batsmen as Knox Gardens raced to victory in only 15 overs.
Meanwhile the club’s youngest cricketers, the Under 11’s, have commenced training on Wednesdays at the Monbulk Recreation Reserve. New players are most welcome.
