Shire keeps cash flow under wraps

A COCKATOO resident has called for the Shire of Cardinia to reveal its current financial state to local residents.
However, the shire has said it is currently reviewing and prioritising its capital and operating spending needs in the run up to the 2006/07 budget.
In a letter to the Mail Valerie Hughes of Cockatoo said it was nearly six months since the council elections and she had expected by now that the council would have told ratepayers what its financial situation was.
Ms Hughes questioned what state the council’s finances were left in by the previous council.
Ms Hughes also questioned when the $100 levy was going to be scrapped. “I think enough time has lapsed to be able to give us some idea,” she said.
Shire communications officer Jeannette Langan said budget deliberations were currently underway and that the rating strategy for the coming year would be decided as part of this process.
Ms Langan said the exact figures of rates, charges and expenditure would be finalised and residents consulted as part of the public exhibition process.
