THE Shire of Yarra Ranges will plant drought resistant grass at sporting grounds to mop up water savings. Computerised water systems will also be used as a water saving measure.
Mayor Monika Keane said the shire was exploring ways to save water while maintaining its 65 sporting grounds following the introduction of stage one water restrictions.
The council will limit watering its sporting grounds to odd number days between midnight and 8am.
