ACTORS from across the state will take centre stage in Emerald later this month as the curtain is raised on the 13th annual Dandenong Ranges One Act Play Festival.
Gemco Players will host a great weekend of theatre, which promises to provide plenty of fun, frivolity and some fantastic acting. Actors from five Victorian theatre companies have entered the festival on Saturday and Sunday 21-22 July.
The weekend will be broken into three sessions of plays, which will be judged by well-known local actor and director Sharon Maine. The plays will run for 20 to 45 minutes and will showcase a range of genres including a number of dramas and comedies.
Festival coordinator Belinda Smullens said that audiences would get to see talented actors of all ages and a number of debut plays that have never been seen before.
Up and coming scriptwriter Liam Jordan of Gemco will also raise the curtain on his debut play called Yes. It is set out as three separate mini acts and is about three different groups of people who are connected by a café, which they find themselves in and the mysterious things start to happen there.
People wanting to see some up-and-coming performers live in action should not miss one of the sessions on Saturday, 21 July at 2pm or 7pm or Sunday, 22 July at noon. The festival will be held at Gemco Players Hall, 19 Kilvington Drive, Emerald, and tickets cost $10 a session or a festival ticket cost $30, taking in all three sessions. To book call 0411 723 530.
