THE Shire of Yarra Ranges last week approved a $1 million waste management contract with a company in Boronia for hard and green waste collection services.
This follows the council’s call for tenders for the collection of hard and green waste for the next two financial years.
WM Waste Management Services, based in Boronia, was the winning tender, quoting $500,000 less than other companies vying for the contract.
The contract comes after the council last month agreed to enter into an agreement with Least Waste to provide composting services at a regional facility in Coldstream.
However, the council’s director of environment and engineering, Simon Thomas, said this contract with WM Waste Management would provide the council with the waste collection service it needed until the regional facility become operational.
