A FESTIVAL of music, food and laughter at the Aztec Bar in Belgrave will raise money to support women in East Timor.
The festival is being organised by the Dandenong Ranges chapter of the East Timor Women Australia (ETWA) which is building on the success of its first festival in 2005.
Jo White of the Dandenong Ranges chapter said this year’s festival will be a great event with an amazing line-up of music and activities.
Aztec Bar owners Beck and Skeet are an essential ingredient for the festival with Beck cooking up a storm to give the community a sample of the flavours of East Timor.
Meanwhile, Skeet will rally the crowd to support the efforts of ETWA which is a volunteer organisation that supports women’s empowerment in East Timor.
“Being part of such a significant initiative is an honour and we’re looking forward to supporting the work of this local group,” Skeet said.
A huge line-up of musicians will keep the crowd entertained including singer and songwriter Marisa Yeaman with her unique sounds of alternative country and blues music and Jed Rowe with his contemporary roots-inspired music.
East Timorese art and hand-weaving will also be on show while Osme Gonsalves of Boronia will showcase his paintings which are heavily influenced by his homeland of East Timor.
The festival will run from 2pm to 8pm and entry is free but donations are welcome.
