KALLISTA’S John Hill Landcare group has been highlighted as one of the many environmental groups that have utilised the Federal Government’s Envirofund grant program.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood has called for other friends groups to follow the John Hill Landcare group’s example.
Mr Wood said the group was one of the best in the hills for applying for funding.
Group facilitator Karen Alexander said over the last four years the group has gained a total of $58,022 in funding including $12,130 in the last round of the Envirofund.
The funding has been used to plant native vegetation, remove weeds and put up fencing to protect the new vegetation from wild animals at the John Hill Reserve in Kallista.
Mr Wood said the Envirofund initiative aims to improve natural resources such as parkland.
“The options for projects are endless and I encourage anyone with an idea for a worthwhile local environment project to apply,” he said.
“The types of projects that are funded through this program can include planting native vegetation, fencing to protect habitat for native specifies, and weeding on public land like local reserves or beaches.
People can now apply for the next round of Envirofund cash and applications close at 5pm on, Friday, 27 April.
It’s good work says MP
