IN ROUND FOUR, Monbulk’s junior cricketers struggled to beat both the opposition and the weather on Saturday. The Under 13 Gold team came closest to a win. Defending 175, they had Belgrave South 7 for 58 when rain stopped play. Matt Taylor starred with the ball, taking 3 for 16.
At 3 for 59, the Under 17 (1)s were forced from the field as they endeavoured to better Mulgrave’s 169. Sam Goland was batting well at 16 not out.
The Under 17 (2), meanwhile, put in an improved performance in the field and only narrowly lost to Upwey. Justin Sproules, Paul Steen and Josh Sargentson all got wickets as the opposition reached 8/103 in reply to Monbulk’s 71.
The Under 15s and Under 13 Maroons also didn’t have big enough scores to defend. In the Under 15s Knox Gardens got to 4 for 110 after Monbulk made 96, and the Under 13 Maroons bowled well but with only 59 on the board went down to Knox Gardens who closed at 5 for 106 (Michael Wolfe 2/10).
