MACCLESFIELD Primary School has been named as a top funding priority for the Labor Government if re-elected in November.
Education Services Minister Jacinta Allan promised the school that it will get priority funding for stage two of its redevelopment project as part of a Bracks Government third term education program.
“While we have already invested strongly in local schools there is still more to be done,” she said.
“The next stage of modernisation work at this school will be funded as a priority.”
Ms Allen said the major upgrade would provide students with high quality facilities and the best possible learning environment.
Monbulk MP James Merlino said stage two of the project would include building six new general-purpose classrooms, construct a new library and student toilets.
John Chiswell, school principal, said the promise of priority funding was great news for the school.
Mr Chiswell said under the next stage a school library will be built at the front of the school to allow for community access. “We hope to be able to offer after hours access to the library and give the community the opportunity to use our high speed Internet access,” he said.
Mr Merlino said the building of the next stage of the project will complement the great work already been done at Macclesfield Primary School.
“This announcement is great news for the parents, students and staff at this fantastic school,” he said.
