COMPETING on the lightning fast greens at Ferntree Gully last Saturday, the Upwey-Tecoma division four side suffered a 12 shot overall loss to a side boosted by higher ranked players.
With three senior players missing from the Upwey-Tecoma line-up, it was obvious from the start that a tough match lay ahead.
The greens at Ferntree Gully are notorious for their slick speed and very few visiting sides are able to come away with wins.
Players Michael Walker and Peter Kornow, who filled in for the day, must have believed they were playing on an ice rink as bowls continually went through to the ditch.
However, nothing could be taken away from the Ferntree Gully side as they played their greens to perfection.
The highlight for Upwey-Tecoma was the rink of the week award winning game by Trevor Robertson and his team.
Struggling at the half time interval this team turned the game around in the second half to come away with a win and so avoid total embarrassment to the top of the premiership ladder side.
Results: Ferntree Gully d Upwey-Tecoma 105-93 (Trevor Robertson won 33-18, Robin Southern lost 23-28, Andrew Walters lost 18-30, Tom Perry lost 19-29).
