Open days for art

THE Hills will come alive with a splash of colour and a dash of paint on the weekend for the Dandenong Ranges Spring Open Studio Weekend.
Twentysix nationally and internationally acclaimed hills artists will open their studios to the public on Saturday, 15, and Sunday, 16 October, between 10am and 5pm.
Artists from Belgrave, Upwey, Selby, Olinda, Mt Evelyn, Menzies Creek, Ferny Creek, Kallista, Sherbrooke and Gembrook will display their work.
Visitors and local art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to experience the rare delights of art in the working studio environment.
A range of art will be on display from sculpture, painting, illustration, prints, ceramic, jewellery, textiles and weaving to multimedia and photography.
Gembrook artist Sue Jarvis will be one of the artists opening their studios to the public.
Sue uses a number of elements in her art work including photography, drawing and printmaking.
But Sue said her main focus is directed towards portraits, genre work, architectural paintings and studies of nature.
Free open studios books and maps are now available from the Burrinja Art Gallery in Glenfern Road, Upwey, and the Dandenong Ranges Tourist Information Centre on Burwood Highway, Upper Ferntree Gully.
The books include photographs, descriptions, locations and contract details of all the artists, their work and their studios.
There is also a map showing all the locations of the open studios.
For more information contact the Burrinja Gallery on 9754 8723.
