WORKING ON ball skills day and night has paid off for Mt Evelyn teenager, Nick Sargent, as he was named the Dandenong Ranges Junior Football League best and fairest last week.
Sargent, 13, plays for Mt Evelyn but said his ultimate goal was to play in the AFL some day.
Setting goals and achieving them has come to fruition for this up-and-coming football great.
Sargent set three goals at the start of the season, which was to win the league best and fairest, to captain the inter-league squad and to lead his team to the grand final.
And he has achieved all those goals, which he has attested to practicing his kicking, and marking day and night.
Nick’s father, Mark said he was stunned when the vote count for the best and fairest medal revealed that Nick had been given nine best on ground votes.
He said in the end the best and fairest trophy was a landslide victory with Nick winning 35 votes out of the possible 39.
“Nick has had a really good season this year.
“He deserves the accolades because he’s out there every morning and night kicking the ball to himself and practicing his marking and handballing skills,” Mr Sargent said.
