TENNIS, cricket, football and netball stars of the future will benefit from a funding boost to improve the Montrose Recreation Reserve.
Sports Minister Justin Madden last week said the State Government will contribute $380,000 to the $1.14 million reserve redevelopment plan.
Mr Madden said improving the reserve will give the local community greater opportunities to enjoy their sports and recreation activities.
He said the major improvements will include upgrading the oval, redeveloping the pavilion, upgrading the netball courts, and a new playground.
Monbulk MP James Merlino said the project is a great example of the State and local council and the community working together to provide better facilities for people to get physically active.
“Montrose Reserve is extremely popular for people of all ages and abilities,” he said.
“The upgrade may even help us unearth future sporting stars.”
Yarra Ranges Walling Ward councillor Len Cox said the council will contribute $660,000 towards the project and the community will commit a further $100,000.
Cr Cox said the funding shows what can be achieved when all levels of government work together.
