THE Shire of Yarra Ranges has purchased a new emergency response vehicle to help with after-hours emergencies.
The vehicle, which cost the shire $60,000, will enable staff to respond to emergencies such as fallen trees or oil spills around the clock.
Billanook Ward councillor Tim Heenan said the vehicle would dramatically increase the shire’s ability to respond to emergencies outside normal business hours.
“This new vehicle will enable us to deal directly with the problem,” he said. “We (the council) will be able to clear the emergency immediately and therefore reduce the hazard.”
The emergency response vehicle will be based at Upwey and Lilydale shire depots.
