Cyber safety clicks

HILLS parents are invited to a seminar on the importance of cyber safety and the challenges associated with raising girls.
The seminar titled Parents vs Popular Culture: Raising Girls – A Challenge Worth Winning, will be held on Tuesday 20 November at the Monbulk College theatre.
Dandenong Ranges School Network is hosting the seminar which will feature Julie Gale as the guest speaker.
A mother of two, Ms Gale is well known for speaking out about sexualised imagery in the media, clothing, advertising and marketing industries and its impact on young children and teenagers.
Ms Gale is a comedy writer and performer who founded the Kids Free 2b Kids campaign earlier this year.
The campaign is aims to reduce the sexualised imagery that children have access to including outdoor billboards, music video clips in children’s viewing times and pornographic magazines which are available in supermarkets and corner stores.
Ms Gale will talk to parents about the different types of images children are exposed to through popular culture and the effects that the media has on the early sexualisation of young girls.
She will also talk about cyber safety and give parent some practical ideas to encourage their children to act responsibly when using the internet.
Parents wanting to find out more about these important issues should attend the seminar on Tuesday 20 November at 7pm at Monbulk College theatre, David Hill Road.
The seminar costs $5 per person and light refreshments will be available.
