THE Emerald Football Club’s senior side started slow and allowed a taller and stronger Yarra Junction side to run loose and score easily.
Accurate kicking certainly paved the way for Yarra Junction as they kicked 20-3 at half time to Emerald’s 7-5.
In the third quarter Emerald attack the football at every stage and managed to contain Yarra Junction while outscoring them 5-4.
The fourth quarter, however, was totally dominated by Yarra Junction as they scored at ease.
The Emerald players never gave up trying and managed their highest score for the season but were outclassed on the day by a team determined to make a mark in the finals.

THE Emerald team were very much undermanned against a strong Yarra Junction side.
Emerald struggled to score in the first quarter with Yarra Junction posting 6-3, which gave them a strong start for the game.
The second and third quarters saw Junction outscore Emerald, 2 goals to 11.
The last quarter was very special for the Emerald team and club as the squad was made up of a father, his two sons and two nephews, who payed a special tribute to a long-time supporter of the club.
Troy Wright who, with all his disabilities, was able to be registered with the league and took to the field for the final part of the quarter. Troy managed his way into the forward pocket where he lined up for his first ever game of Australian Rules.
The Emerald boys tried hard to move the ball to the forward line to give him an opportunity to touch the ball.
When the ball came near Troy he was accidentally tripped, earning him a free kick in front of goal. He lined up and converted accurately.
Club president, Bill Kuys thanked the Yarra Junction players and the Yarra Junction Football Club for making this possible on this emotional special occasion.

Emerald 6.12.48 d Yarra Junction 6.6.42.
EMERALDran out winners against the ladder leaders Yarra Junction. Both sides went very hard at the ball and the difference between the two sides at quarter time was only four points with the ball seesawing from end to end.
The second quarter saw a more determined Junction side who managed to score three goals while keeping Emerald goalless.
The third quarter was a turnaround for the Emerald boys as they outplayed Junction time and time again and managed to post 2-5 while keeping Junction to a solitary point and reducing the deficit to 4 points.
Emerald continued on with their previous quarter form and were determined not to be shown up by the ladder leaders. Emerald again outplayed Junction by kicking 2-3 to 2 points and managed to snatch victory in the dying minutes of the game.
Best: A team effort.

Emerald 36 d Yarra Junction 34
EMERALD hosted league ladder leaders Yarra Junction at home for round 17.
Yarra Junction started as suspected and took a 5-goal lead at the first quarter.
Determined to give it everything Emerald went in hard and contested every ball and made every pass count which worked and at half time had a lead of 4 goals.
The second half was very tight and Yarra Junction came back to within one goal of Emerald going into the last quarter, which proved to be either team’s game.
Both teams fought hard up until the final siren and Emerald came away with the win by 2 goals.
