PAUL Thomas (17) was the star of the day at the Emerald Golf Club as great playing conditions arrived for the Foundation Shield.
His net 64 blew all out of the water and gave him the B Grade title.
The course rating was set at 69 after the day’s hostilities and the competition for the day was also the qualifying round for the match play.
A Grade was won by Dennis Fuller (11) with a net 67 while Peter Jones trumped all other C Graders with his 66.
A great swish of six golfers finished with 69 including Leigh Morison, Graham White, Andrew Smith, Dave Hunt, Ken Hill and Rick Arthurson.
Nearest the pins was won by Peter Jones on the 4th, Andrew Smith the 12th. Martin Yeats the 13th, while Dave Hunt came in late with the shot of the day to take out the pro pin on the 18th.
The stroke competition on Wednesday was won by Moss Fuller with a net 65 from brother Dennis on 66. Mick Petrie proves the greens were to his liking by taking out the putting with 28 putts for the round.
Next Saturday is the annual match between Emerald and Olinda golf clubs. Emerald are the present holders of the shield.
