IN an amazing morning of cricket, Monbulk’s U13/2 team dismissed Upwey for a meagre 20 runs on Saturday.
Previously winless, Monbulk then batted, ending the first day at 4 for 97. Starring with the ball were Jeff Johnston (3 for 6), and Brodie Currie and Bryce Lees who both took two wickets. Brodie Currie then backed up with a top score of 25. Coach Mark Ellis wasn’t surprised that at last his charges are about to record a victory.
Monbulk’s U13/1 side, meanwhile, is in a strong position to record its 6th win of the season. In wet and blustery conditions at Knox Gardens, the home side was all out for 111. Cam Griffiths and Chris Anderson both snared two wickets.
It was also a good day for the U17s. Playing top side Knoxfield, Brenden Wilson (26) and Justin Creed (25) got the Hawks off to solid start before a 93-run partnership between Kieren Gray (47) and Sam Goland (63 not out) took the score to 3 for 195.
Monbulk’s U15s, against tight bowling by South Belgrave, were restricted to 8 for 68. Tom Hutchins top scored with 20.
Monbulk well set on victory path
