THE Shire of Yarra Ranges is on track to plant 24,000 indigenous trees and shrubs this year.
Lyster Ward councillor Samantha Dunn said the massive planting program was a part of the shire’s commitment to demonstrating environmental leadership.
Cr Dunn said the shire would also provide indigenous plant vouchers for up to 50 plants to residents looking to revegetate council land next to their own properties.
She urged residents who are removing weeds to replace them with non-invasive species.
A list of indigenous plants suitable for various parts of the shire is available from the council on 1300 368 333.
