Callum steals the spotlight up the order

HEADING towards their first finals campaign, the Upwey-Tecoma Under 13/1 team needed to test their batting depth and found another talent in Callum Brown.
Normally pencilled in at No.11, Callum grabbed his chance when promoted to open the innings against Ferntree Gully in the last home and away round of the season.
Apart from Jackson Barnard (46), the regular run-getters had a quiet day while Brown stood tall compiling an impressive 38 to return the Tigers to the winner’s list.
Ryan Lester (3/21), Aaron Cross (2/14) and Jason Angulo (1/5) ensured the Under 13/2 side finished their season on a high note, dismissing Lysterfield for 166 – 67 runs short of the target.
Despite some quick fire runs from Mitch Hewitt (65) and Ben Wood (50), Upwey-Tecoma’s Under 17/1 side came up just short in their quest for outright points against Bayswater.
Reduced to 6/70 in their second dig by Daniel Waters (4/26) and Ben Wood (2/20), Bayswater was saved by the clock, ending a great attempt to sneak into the finals.
Jordan Whiteman (3/26) and Stan Mills (2/22) took the Under 15/1 XI to within a whisker of victory against Lysterfield but 193 not quite enough, being passed in a tense last over.
Daniel Watson (31) and Harry Scott (22 n.o.) fought off The Basin’s plans for outright victory in the Under 15/2A match to end their season on a determined note.
It’s been a hard road for the Under 15/2B XI this season but Mitch Abson (2/20) and Alex Kelly (1/9) led a successful defence of 150, bowling out Belgrave for 114 to record a maiden victory.
Cory Woolcock (18 n.o) and Christian Smolders (14) then enjoyed some valuable time in the middle, finishing on 1/40 to round out the season.
