MONBULK suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday as it crashed 2-1 to Brandon Park.
Starting well, Monbulk dominated most of the early play but were unable to find the net and were shocked by a Brandon Park goal against the run of play midway through the first half.
The second half continued in a similar vein until Brandon Park cashed in on a goalmouth error to go ahead 2-0 and despite a late goal by Paul Psathas and constant pressure from Monbulk’s attack the points had slipped from Monbulk’s grasp.
The reserves brimming with young players fought back to draw 1-1 with a late goal from Jack Kirkham.
Monbulk Ladies started their State League Division Two 2007 season in fine form on Sunday crushing Doncaster Rovers 6-0 at home.
In a lively and entertaining match, both teams fought hard to start the season with a win, but Monbulk’s superiority shone through and Doncaster were eventually overwhelmed as goals flowed from Rebecca Saber, Morwenna James (2), Aliesha Whetham, Sally Williams and an own goal.
Monbulk’s next home game is at 1pm on Sunday, 20 May.
