UPWEY Village Consultative Committee (UVCC) is looking to consolidate recent achievements and welcome new contributions to take the township forward.
Chairman Christiaan O’Dea voted into the position in February to take the place left vacant by Peter Marke late last year, has declared an open invitation for new members with ideas to help build on the committee’s previous achievements.
“The hard work over the past few years means this committee has inherited a fantastic base to build on.
“The previous chairman, Peter Marke, was a huge influence in making Upwey what it is today through 15 years of dedication to the township,” he said.
Keen to expand the role of the committee, Mr O’Dea said there were a lot of untapped community-minded people in the area.
“Upwey residents are tremendous at rolling up the sleeves and getting stuck in.
“The Village Square, the Billy cart race in February, new art panels on the walls of the underpass to Upwey train station and the continued graffiti paint outs are all examples of recent activities that help make Upwey a great place to live,” he said.
Mr O’Dea said the current 12-member UVCC was looking to expand with the inclusion of some younger people.
The possibility of recruiting a year 10 or 11 student has been discussed with Upwey High School.
