KNOX mayor David Cooper has expressed a wish that Australian citizens new and old celebrate Australia Day with a nod to our past and an enthusiastic eye on the future.
Cr Cooper said Knox residents should celebrate Australia Day on Thursday with great national pride.
“Australia Day is a time to reflect on our heritage and acknowledge our bright future,” he said.
“Our national spirit will be alive and well this year at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, so let’s get the ball rolling for 2006 with Australia Day.”
As part of the Knox celebration, the council will acknowledge local heroes by announcing the 2006 Local Australia Day Award recipients.
After the ceremony, the public is invited to see the raising of the flag at the Civic Centre, which will start about 10.15am.
