CARDINIA Shire Council has denied receiving an application for a Safeway store in Emerald.
The statement comes after several months of rumours that the supermarket chain is moving into the town.
During that period Safeway has said it would neither confirm nor deny it had its eye on the town.
The shire last week confirmed that it had not received a planning application for a supermarket in Emerald.
