A MOTHER’S quick actions got her two young children to safety after her Mr Evelyn house caught fire on Thursday, 12 January.
Mt Evelyn CFA captain Ken Mitchell said the woman discovered the children, aged six and four, playing in a cupboard and smelt smoke. The woman rang the fire brigade and then got her children outside to safety.
The fire destroyed about 30 per cent of the house, Captain Mitchell said.
Two fire tankers from Mt Evelyn and one each from Lilydale and Mooroolbark attended the fire, which took 15 minutes to control.
