COMMUNITY safety officers from Knox council have began property inspections in readiness for the summer bushfire season.
The officers are targeting areas most at risk of fire, Knox City Council chief executive officer Graeme Emonson said. “Summer is coming and residents and landowners in fire prone areas need to reduce combustible materials on their properties in readiness for the bushfire season ahead,” he said.
“It is essential that fire hazards are minimised to protect lives and homes.
“Owners of properties with long grass and excessive combustible materials on their blocks will receive notices to remove hazardous material within 14 days.”
The Country Fire Authority and other emergency services are already busy preparing for the fire season.
“As summer approaches, so does the likelihood of bushfires. Let’s all get ‘fire ready’ to avoid tragedy if fires occur,” Mr Emonson said.
