EMERALD Community House has embraced the news that it will receive funding for the development of a
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato last week announced that the community house would receive $2500 through the Victorian Volunteer Small Grants program.
Ms Lobato said the grant is to enable the community house to employ a project worker to review and update the centre’s volunteer recruitment policy.
“The Emerald Community House is vital to the life of the community and this grant will enable the centre to engage new volunteers from diverse backgrounds with the assistance of a dedicated project worker,” she said.
Emerald Community House coordinator Chris Easdown said the house relies very heavily on its volunteers in a lot of areas including administration support, before and after-school care.
Ms Easdown said the funding of a project worker would ensure that the recruitment policy process for the community house was sound and that more attention could be paid to providing a quality volunteer centre for the local community.
She said it would also enable the house to explore wider advertising possibilities and recruitment processes.
The Emerald Community House currently has 25 volunteers and is alway looking for other interested volunteers.
Ms Easdown said the funding was a great assistance to help with the important job of upgrading policy and training processes.
“It provides for someone to do this important job, which we couldn’t fit into the normal working week,” she said.
