Premier shows off state’s energy plan

MONBULK policeman Alan Fincher is doing his bit to help the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Premier Steve Bracks visited Mr Fincher’s home last week to announce his intentions to help households save $100 per year on their electricity bills.
Mr Fincher has installed double glazed windows at his house which help keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter.
He also has an energy saving washing machine and other household appliances that save power.
Mr Bracks has promised to help families like the Finchers reduce greenhouse gas emissions from households by 10 per cent if re-elected later this month.
He said Labor was leading the fight to combat climate change, but more needed to be done.
“Under our plan householders will have help in saving on their energy use, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money through rebates and lower bills,” he said.
Mr Bracks said a Labor Government would also provide $100 rebates for people who were using energy efficient appliances such as washing machines, fridges, heaters and cooling systems.
“We will also require energy retailers to help households achieve the new 10 per cent reduction target,” he said.
“For example, retailers may supply energy efficient light bulbs and triple A showerheads to households or offer rebates to their customers.”
Mr Bracks also promised to ensure households and small businesses who generate their own power through solar or other methods can feed any excess power back into the power grid and receive a fair price.
