THE people of Monbulk are being urged to help bring back the spirit of Christmas.
Carmel Mitchell of the town’s opportunity group, MADCOW, is asking people to pull out their decorations and help deck the main street in festive cheer.
She said the spirit of Christmas has died in Monbulk over the past five years.
Ms Mitchell is now trying to resurrect Christmas by setting up a committee to decorate the town.
She said Christmas was stolen several years ago when lights and decorations that the traders paid for disappeared.
“We want to see a bit of life back in the town at Christmas,” she said.
Ms Mitchell said traders are being called on to take part in the best window display competition while local community groups and churches are being urged to put up lights.
She has also urged local youths to think of a Christmas theme and decoration for the town’s skate park.
Santa Claus will also be brought back to town the week before Christmas to check if the children of Monbulk have been naughty or nice.
