SWEET-TOOTHED students from St Thomas More’s Primary School were entertained at Belgrave Library last week as part of an initiative to promote literacy in the region.
Writers Michael de Valle and Jutta Goetze read to the students from the Roald Dahl classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Tuesday, 15 November.
The event, which earned attentive kids a chocolate treat, was part of Eastern Regional Libraries’ Read Around the Region program.
The program, designed to celebrate reading and literacy, took place in 13 libraries across the Cities of Knox and Maroondah and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
About 80 readers took part in the Readathon, which lasted from 10am to 8pm and entertained hundreds of listeners, including school groups.
Readers participated by gold coin donation and funds were pooled with the day’s overdue fines in the three municipalities.
All proceeds from the event went to local literacy programs.
Book reading is a tasty treat
