Island of adventure

TRAVELLING across a magical sea to a land far, far away, Macclesfield Primary School children will exploring a day in a life of pirates and princesses in an up-coming play.
The students are learning how to hunt for hidden treasure and how to wave like a princess for their J Rock performance.
J Rock is a performing arts event which is held across Australia and gives primary school children the opportunity to express themselves through music and art by producing an eight-minute act.
Macclesfield Primary School’s performance is about a group of pirates in search of treasure. The pirates travel across the seas to a peaceful island, which is the home of many beautiful princesses.
But the pirates stumble across a problem when they realise the treasure map is only half a map.
The story follows the pirates and princesses in their quest to find the other half of the map and hidden tressure. Teacher Nadja Wood said the children were working hard in the lead up to their performance, which will be held at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday, 8 August.
Ms Wood said 66 children would perform while another 14 will play a vital role in the school’s performance as back stage crew. She said it was not only the children who were working hard but also all the parents and teachers who had helped to make costumes and design the sets.
Ms Wood said everyone at the school was now busy putting the final touches to the performance.
