Maguire marches on

By Dennis Fuller
MANGO Maguire was the star of the day at the Emerald Golf Club last Saturday, the second day of the club championships as fine weather and slick greens tested the best and the worst to produce a course rating of 67.
Maguire followed up last week’s two over par with a two under par this week to put him even with the card after two rounds on 140. He leads A Grade by 8 strokes from Edin Selimovic, on 148, who shot an even par round to take out the day’s competition and A Grade as well, from an unlucky Maguire.
Others in the four-man play-off will be Ross Martin on 161 and Mike Litchfield on 163.
In B Grade there were changes on the leaderboard when Graeme Fergus pushed to the front on 173, with Dennis Fuller three back on 176. Peter Coniglione is next when he scored a net 66 off his 20 handicap to win the B Grade competition. Making up the four for the final round is Rod Ward on 178.
In C Grade, the leader of the pack, Graeme Lawler on 192, is still the favourite. Next is Paul Thomas who threatens on 197, Andrew Tudor on 198, as is Ken Sumsion. The winner of the C Grade competition on the day was Brian Crawford who scored 70 off his 26 handicap.
Others to score well on the day were, Maguire a net 63, Litchfield and Fergus 68, Fuller 70, Stuart Courtney on 71 and Keith Bailey on 72.
Nearest the pins were won by Fuller on the 7th, Ken Hill the 12th, Maguire the 17th and Ian Scott won the pro pin on the 18th.
Next week is the final round of the championship.
