HILLS people are being called on to dig deep to help wildlife rescuers.
Bimbimbie Wildlife Park owners Paul and Francine Davy are holding a twilight picnic on Saturday to raise money for wildlife rescue.
The picnic will have an array of entertainment from Paddys Wombat Bush Band to boomerang throwing competitions and children’s activities.
Pony rides, a jumping castle and a children’s tent will keep the kids entertained.
People are invited to bring their own picnic and rug or join in the sausage sizzle, which will be available.
Ms Davy said she cares for up to three injured animals a week and that the money raised from the picnic will go towards a wildlife rescue van and towards the cost of feeding and caring for the rescued animals.
Tipsy the brush tail possum is just one of the many animals that the Davys look after.
He was rescued by a volunteer firefighter from Cockatoo last week.
“A tree came down and he was rescued by a local firefighter and he came to us to look after,” Ms Davy said.
The six-month-old possum is now being cared for by the Davys and will be looked after until she is old enough to be released back into the wild.
Ms Davy said rescuing animals like Tipsy would be made a lot easier if the wildlife carers in the hills had a van at their disposal.
She hopes people will come along to the picnic and help them raise money for the animals.
The picnic is being held at Bimbimbie Wildlife Park at 523 Paternoster Road, Mt Burnett, and starts at 5pm.
Entry to the park costs $10 for adults, $7 for children and $30 for families.
