EMERALD Golf Club is calling on all current and ex-servicemen and women to participate in its annual Servicemen’s event on Saturday, 13 May.
The event has been running at the Emerald Golf Club since 1946 and is open to golfers who have seen active service or been members of the regular army, navy or airforce.
Club member Rod Ward said the event has previously only been open to club members, but that with only a couple servicemen currently being members it had decided to invite servicemen from other clubs.
Mr Ward said the trophy for the event depicts a soldier with a set of golf clubs, and was made from a melted down shell. He said the winner of the event would have their name place on the trophy, which is display at the golf club, as well as receiving a trophy to keep.
The Servicemen’s event will involve participants playing an 18-hole course of stableford golf.
Any servicemen or women wishing to play should contact Mr Ward on 5968 4391 to arrange a time and group to play with at the event.
“All servicemen are assured of a warm welcome as they assist the club to maintain one of its finest traditions,” Mr Ward said.
