IN what is expected to be a classic contest between two of the YVMDFL’s heavyweights, Upwey and Monbulk Football and Netball Clubs will go head to head at the Upwey Dome on Friday, Anzac Day. With the Reserves game starting at 1pm, followed by the senior game, and then the Under 18 playing a twilight match starting at around 5.30pm, the day should be a terrific day for local sport and a very large crowd is expected.
The club’s two netball teams will also be contesting during the afternoon. The clubs, with league approval, will now play annually on or as close as possible to Anzac day, and will be contesting for the “Anzac Day Trophy”, a perpetual trophy which this year will be presented by Sports Minister James Merlino at the completion of the senior game.
RSL officials from both Upwey-Belgrave RSL and Monbulk RSL will also be involved in choosing and presenting a medallion for the Best on Ground medal to the best player in the senior game.
Those interested in checking out this fantastic clash can see some of the action at the Upwey Football ground, Chosen Avenue, Upwey.
