Bands line up to battle it out

CARDINIA Shire is looking for local bands to compete in the annual Push Start Battle of the Bands.
Groups have until 9 May to provide a demo CD and entry forms to the shire youth services department.
The winners of the local section will go on to perform at the regional finals and the winners of the regions will compete at the FReeZA Push Over Festival.
The annual FReeZA event provides local bands with the opportunity to showcase their talents. It attracts wide interest from young musicians. Last year’s winners were Slayain.
The shire final will be held at Pakenham Hall on 27 June. This will enable bands to perform before a large audience.
The event is being organised by Electric Productions and the council.
Youth services officer Carrolyn Aguis said the Battle of the Bands was a way for young artists to demonstrate their potential to community members as well as people in the music industry.
The shire council’s search for bands began some weeks ago and last week the shire put out another reminder about the deadline for entries.
The average age of competitors is 21 years.
Most of the entrants see the competition as a way of kick-starting their careers in popular music by making use of the resources and assistance available close to their own neighbourhoods.
Application forms are available from the Cardinia Shire Council website, from the council’s youth services team, or from Carrolyn Aguis on 1300 787 624.
