TATE Bergman scored two centuries in two matches as he ensured the Rowville Hawks got home against Knoxfield in a close Ferntree Gully and District Association’s Round 9 encounter at Seebeck Oval.
He remained not out on 117 when Ryan Arnell scored the winning runs in the last over.
The win sees Rowville move to the top of the table while Knoxfield will need to win the last two games to avoid relegation.
In the other close game of the round, The Basin managed to knock Johnson Park off the top of the table.
The Huntsmen won the game with four balls to spare with Danny ‘RS’ Rundle top scoring. Steve Bowen was the best bowler for the Sharks.
Monbulk easily accounted for Belgrave making 244 in reply to the Magpies 128.
Shane Colee stood out with 71 for the Hawks while Ben Carnell will be Belgrave’s leading wicket taker for the year after taking seven wickets.
Monbulk are sitting second on the ladder in their first year back in the Knox Tavern Cup.
In the other games, Mountain Gates 6/331 proved too much for St John’s Tecoma, Upwey only managed 139 chasing Ferntree Gully’s 177 and Eildon Park had a strong will over Upper Ferntree Gully bowling the Kings out for 146.
In the Decoite Shield, South Belgrave strengthened their grip on third spot with an outright win over Knox Gardens after the Falcons closed their second innings with a lead of 72 runs.
Footballers and Lysterfield continued on their winning ways at the expense of Knoxfield and Aura Vale respectively.
Next week’s game will see the ladder leaders go head to head.
Upwey had a good win over Ferntree Gully and Knox’s score of 350 proved too much for Eildon Park.
