Brookers disappoint up on ‘windy hill’

SILVAN’S big guns fired on the weekend led by Garry Moorcroft to dispose of the Brookers on their home turf.
Clarke won the toss and the Brooker’s had first use of a six goal breeze but failed to capitalise on the opportunity and could only manage a twopoint lead at the first change.
The second quarter saw Silvan kick into gear and move away from the Brooker’s on the scoreboard with Moorcroft, Loughton and Smarty starting to control the game. Matt Cox kicked two brilliant goals during the second quarter and eventually ended up with five for the day to be Gembrook’s best player.
At half time Silvan had a handy fivegoal lead. In the third quarter Gembrook tried to lift their work rate and intensity with no success. Time and time again the Silvan backline repelled the Brookers attack and they showed their class with pinpoint delivery into their own forward 50 to outscore the home side against the wind.
With no bench to utilise the Brooker’s had to try and salvage some pride in the last quarter against the wind but was always going to struggle. Silvan outclassed Gembrook on the day and look like shaping the finals in a big way if they can have a full list to pick from.
Best Players: M. Cox, A. Shipp, B. Charman, C. Clarke.
Goal Scorers: M. Cox 5.

THE whole team played very well for the full four quarters to record a memorable win.
A determined Gembrook wanting to make amends for last week’s performance came out fired up at home. The blustery conditions were playing havoc with the players. However taking advantage of the conditions, the Brookers kicked three goals in the first quarter due to the drive being provided in the midfield by Nathan Kruzicevic, Terry Kendall and Ben Fenton.
The team took control for the balance of the game and the backline held together by Doc Hollywood and Nick Green for his first senior game were able to keep Silvan to only two goals for the first half.
The second half saw the team stick to their game plan and came out deserved winners.
Best players: N. Green, B. Fenton, C. Bourne, S. Paul and T. Kendall.
Goals: R. Thoms, C. Williams, D. Wilkie, P. Moratore, M. Hedger.

AFTER losing to Silvan earlier in the year by 15 goals the Brooker’s were able to mount a much better effort this time. The coach credits the boxing training at last Monday’s training session kindly provided by Gary Luscombe, which was very much appreciated by all concerned.
The teams attack on the ball was the major improvement in their performance this week and responded very well to gain the respect of the opposition.
A special thank you to our apprentice sailor for his outstanding performance at full forward.
Best players: T. Lennox, J. Hampton, G. Hartridge, W. Davis.
Goals: M. Breakwell 3, M. Hedger and A. Hilder.

Next Week
