CHIROPRACTIC philosophy began with the principle that the human organism has an innate power to maintain its own health.
The art of chiropractic focuses on adjustments to correct spinal malfunctions, called subluxations, in order to remove interference to the spinal cord and the nerves that exit between the bones of the spine.
Dr Patrick Sunstrom of Belgrave Chiropractic states that chiropractors are specialists in locating, analysing and correcting vertebral subluxations which are spinal bones that have lost their normal function and alignment through wrong working position, trauma or injury.
“These vertebral subluxations put pressure on the nervous system, causing stiffness, aches, pains and even ill health,” said Patrick.
“Symptoms are many and varied and can range from headache, fatigue, pain and aches in back, neck and extremities as well as numbness or tingling.
“Some are constant whilst some appear whilst lying, standing or sitting,” said Patrick.
“Chiropractic can also help with organ related problems.”
Five-years of tertiary studies are required to become a doctor of chiropractic.
Since 1898, chiropractors have been taught how to adjust a spine correctly at chiropractic schools. They have had the right to own and operate their own X-ray machine since 1909.
Dr Sunstrom come from Sweden and graduated from Scandinavian Chiropractic College in 1994.
After practising for four years in Sweden he decided to enhance his knowledge and study the Gonsted Chiropractic system in Australia.
He decided to stay in Australia when he met his present wife Aylee and opened Belgrave Chiropractic four years ago. Dr Adam Stewart, who also practises the Gonsted technique, supports Patrick in the clinic.
“Our aim is to provide the highest possible standard of care for you, your family and your friends,” said Patrick.
“We continue to promote the Gonsted chiropractic technique because it works.
“Gonsted technique is a very direct and gentle approach but also quick and painless. The technique suits all ages, even children, who can also injure their spines.”
In addition, Belgrave Chiropractic gives clients the benefits of muscle therapy and naturopathy all under one roof.
Myotherapist Hayley Bottin assists in treating muscle dysfunctions by making the muscle more flexible and soft, using a range of techniques.
Naturopathy is the use of natural remedies and herbs to strengthen and improve health.
Belgrave Chiropractic clinic is at 1651 Burwood Highway, Belgrave. For an appointment phone 9752 5886.
