Isherwood shows form at Emerald

By Dennis Fuller
THE first round of the three-round Maurie Murphy Summer Cup began at Emerald Golf Club last Saturday in great conditions.
Maurie Murphy was the Godfather of the Club for many years and remains one of few on the life members’ list.
Geoff Isherwood (19) has been getting closer to playing very well of late and chose this competition to raise the family flag.
He finished on 4-up for the day to win over-all and B Grade.
New skipper, Graeme White (12) chose this round to announce his presence by taking out A Grade on 1-up.
Andrew Tudor (21), newly handicapped to C Grade, proved he will not be there for long by taking out that gong by ending 2up.
Others to finish still in the same straight as the leaders are, Steve Miller 1-up, Leigh Morison square, and a sledge of golfers including Dave Harvey, Rick Arthurson, Peter Clowes, Mike Litchfield, Ian Scott, Brett Isherwood and Andrew Smith all on –1.
Clowes won nearest the pin on the 13th, Morison on the 17th and Mango Maguire, making a welcome return picked up the pro pin on the 18th.
Wednesday’s Outlandishly Frail Golf (OFG) was won by Mick Petrie with 45 stableford points.
He was followed home by Ben Balfour on 41 and Ken Hill on 40.
Next Saturday is the second round of the Summer Cup.
